Title: Director of Federal Affairs

Location: Washington, DC

Summary Description: At the direction of the Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs, this individual will assist with APG’s federal advocacy and government affairs functions on regulatory and legislative matters. He/She will advocate for the policies and positions adopted by the APG Board of Directors and Federal Policy Committee. This position will report to APG’s Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs.


The Director of Federal Affairs will perform the following functions associated with APG’s education, leadership, and federal advocacy initiatives. The responsibilities associated with this position will include:

• Preparing policy papers, comment letters, briefs, articles, one-pagers, testimony, and other documents conveying APG’s policy positions;
• Assisting in preparing and presenting national webinars on new regulations and other emerging trends;
• Building APG’s ongoing relationships with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, Executive Branch and health policy thought leaders;
• Monitoring proposed legislation and regulations impacting APG members as well as responding to members’ questions regarding technical regulatory matters;
• Preparing materials and completing analysis of regulations and new APM models to help convey key policy positions and information to APG members;
• Assisting with preparation of the APG weekly Healthcare on the Hill update;
• Assisting with development and implementation of strategies to grow APG Federal PAC donations;
• Attending and coordinate fundraisers for Members of Congress on behalf of APG’s Federal PAC;
• Assisting with APG meetings and events, including the Deep Dive for Washington Advocates, APG regional meetings, and APG’s Federal Policy Committee;
• Assisting with APG new member recruitment;
• Staffing the APG Annual Conference, Colloquium, regional meetings, and other meetings as needed.


• Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
• Must be highly organized, analytical, accurate, and detail oriented;
• Must have knowledge of reference sources;
• Must be skilled in creating content using full suite of Microsoft Office applications;
• Familiarity with federal advocacy and membership database applications;
• Able to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment;
• Self-starter;
• Effective team player;
• Understanding of Medicare physician payment, Medicare Advantage and Alternative Payment Models;
• Demonstrated ability to understand health policy issues and politics.


Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Knowledge of health reform and movement from volume to value preferred.


This position is based in Washington, DC but will require some travel.
