New DNC ad hits Romney as flip-flopper

The Democratic National Committee is launching a new ad blitz in key battleground states targeting GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney as a flip-flopper.

{mosads}”From the creator of ‘I’m running for office, for Pete’s sake,’ comes the story of two men trapped in one body,” says a voice-over as the ad begins. The ad then highlights quotes from the former Massachusetts governor intended to suggest he has held inconsistent positions on key issues during his political career. It also directs viewers to ‘MittvMitt.com,’ where they can watch a longer video.

“The bottom line here is that character and values matter. When he ran for President last time, Mitt Romney admitted he’d changed his position on a lot of issues. This time, he claims he’s Mr. Consistency. Mitt Romney can’t even take a position on taking a position,” said a DNC email release announcing the ad buy.

The ad will run in markets in key states: Albuquerque, N.M., Columbus, Ohio, Milwaukee, Wis., and Pittsburgh, Pa., as well as in Washington, D.C.

Romney’s Republican rivals have long accused him of changing his positions on policy issues throughout his career. Democrats and members of the Obama campaign team have picked up their attacks on Romney along these lines.

Last month, the DNC launched ‘WhichMitt.com‘ a website that allowed visitors to take a multiple-choice quiz on Romney’s various positions on campaign issues. Users were asked to pick Romney’s position on different topics, with the catch being that the correct answer was always “all of the above.”
