GOP lawmaker: Immigration reform can pass

A GOP lawmaker says that immigration reform will pass if Republicans win back control of the Senate and retain the majority in the House.

Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R) told The Hill that she is "very optimistic" that her party can work with President Obama to move immigration reform in a step-by-step process.

If they fail to do so however, the former House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman worries that her party will not win back the White House in 2016.

The Cuban-born lawmaker says that minority groups, including "Hispanics, Asian-Americans, women and young people ... are a problem for the Republican party, a problem in the sense that we're doing everything we can to alienate them so, we are just not reaching out to the right demographics to get them to be interested in Republican policies."
