Watch live: Trump briefed on relief efforts in Puerto Rico

President Trump is heading to Puerto Rico on Tuesday to survey the devastation from Hurricane Maria after he was criticized over his administration's response to the disaster.

First lady Melania Trump will accompany the president on the trip, which comes as the White House has been scrambling to show it is on top of the crisis.

President Trump will participate in a briefing on the progress of relief efforts.

The mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, who has been feuding with Trump, will also attend the event.

Cruz last week sharply rebuked the federal government's handling of the disaster relief.

“If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency,” she said Friday.

Trump then criticized Cruz on Twitter, accusing the mayor on Saturday of exhibiting poor leadership in the midst of the recovery efforts and claiming Puerto Rican leaders want the federal government to do everything for them.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 12:05 p.m.
