Baldwin rips GOP on Medicare in new biographical ad

“My mother was just a teenager when I was born and I never met my father, but I was very fortunate that I had grandparents who raised me,” she says in the ad while holding pictures of herself with her grandparents. “When Nana became frail it was my honor to help take care of her, so when people in Washington talk about slashing Medicare benefits instead of asking millionaires to pay their fair share, I know it’s wrong. I’m Tammy Baldwin, the granddaughter of David and Doris Green, and I’m proud to approve this message.”

{mosads}Baldwin has long been made healthcare issues her priority in Congress. Republicans have attacked her of late for supporting a single-payer, government-run system, and this personal portrayal could work to soften the blow of that attack.

Her campaign declined to state how much is behind the ad, but said it was a strong statewide buy. She’ll face the winner of a crowded Republican primary that includes former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R), former Rep. Mark Neumann (R-Wis.) and businessman Eric Hovde (R).
