Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said illegal immigrants should “get in line” if they want to stay in the United States.

Appearing on Fox News with Bret Baier, Romney said, “Those people that are here illegally today should have the opportunity to register and to have their status identified and those individuals should get in line with everyone else who’s in line legally.”

Romney added that those in the country illegally should not be given spots in line ahead of those currently working through the immigration process legally.

Other Republican candidates, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, have both been criticized for their positions on immigration. Perry was attacked for saying that those who do not support giving the those who came to the U.S. as children in state college tuition do not have a heart and Gingrich for voicing what some see as support for an amnesty program.
