Steele floats running for RNC chairman again

In an interview on C-SPAN on Sunday, Steele was first asked if he thought current RNC Chairman Reince Priebus should run for another term. Priebus has suggested that he is leaning toward running for reelection.

{mosads}”That’s gonna be something the members have to decide,” Steele said.

Steele was then asked if he would consider running for RNC chairman again.

“It’s not a bad idea.” Steele said in response. “It would shake up the house a little bit more, what do you think?”

Pressed on if he was serious, Steele said “we’d see.” He added that there’s “time” before he would need to make a final decision.

In 2011, Priebus successfully ran against Steele for the chairmanship.

Steele’s comments came a few days after the 2012 elections in which Democrats held their best defensive record in the Senate since 1964. Democrats won 22 of 23 Senate races, losing only the Nebraska race for retiring Sen. Ben Nelson’s seat. In the House, Republicans retained control, losing only four seats, while Democrats picked up five. After election night, Republicans controlled the House with 233 seats to Democrats at 195.
