Ambassador Rice: Palestinian bid at UN won't create state

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said the Palestinian bid for full U.N. membership will not result in statehood for the Palestinian people.

"The Palestinian move at the United Nations is not going to create a state; not in reality and not even, in fact, in theory," Rice said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast Monday.

She told the audience that the fundamental issues blocking statehood, including border security, refugees and Jerusalem would not be solved by going directly to the U.N.

"There's no shortcutting the critical negotiations that can only yield a final and viable agreement," Rice said.
