Obama tells 'The Wire' creator he's a 'huge fan'

President Obama has gushed to the creator of “The Wire" that he’s a “huge fan" of the HBO crime drama.

In a video screened Thursday at the Bipartisan Summit on Criminal Justice Reform in Washington, Obama plays the part of interviewer in a chat with creator David Simon.

“I gotta tell you,” Obama says to Simon in the very beginning of the clip, “I’m a huge fan of ‘The Wire.’ ”

But the president’s fandom didn’t end there.

“I think it’s one of the greatest, not just television shows, but pieces of art, in the last couple of decades,” Obama, 53, exclaims.

The gritty series, which was set in Baltimore, ran from 2002 until 2008.

“I was a huge fan of it,” Obama repeated.

Obama has described his taste in television shows as “a little darker” than the rest of the first family. He has said some of his other favorite series include “Breaking Bad,” “House of Cards” and “Boardwalk Empire.”
