World War II to be marked with historic flyover

The 70th anniversary of the end of World War II will be marked Friday in Washington when about 50 planes from the era rumble over the National Mall.

Missouri Rep. Sam Graves (R) will be one of the pilots. He’s flying in the final “missing man” formation of the hour-long procession.

Graves told The Hill the aircraft he’ll be piloting is the same flown by former President George H.W. Bush.

Nearly 300 World War II veterans are expected to be on hand for the event, with planes beginning their parade at 12:10 p.m.

The Hill, one of the sponsors of today’s event, also will stream the parade of planes live.
