First lady: Christie an example of why 'Let's Move' is important

The first lady initially tempered her comments by calling it a private family decision.

“That’s a very personal matter, and it’s something between the governor and his family, and I try not to comment on people’s personal choices,” she said. “I think Gov. Christie is terrific, and his family is wonderful, and I wish them the best.”

Christie, who has long battled to control his weight, has reportedly lost 40 pounds since undergoing gastric band surgery, which restricts the amount of food he can eat. On Tuesday, he told reporters at a press conference that his decision to undergo the procedure was “nobody’s business,” and called it a personal decision he made with the support of his family.

“It was not your business; it’s nobody’s business other than mine,” he said.

The New Jersey governor is one of the most popular political figures in the country, and many consider him to be in the top-tier of potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates. Christie said the surgery had nothing to do with his political ambitions.
