House Republican: Global warming a ‘fraud’ to help ‘create global government’

Global warming is a “fraud” orchestrated by people with a far-reaching agenda to restrict personal freedom, according to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.).

“Just so you'll know, global warming is a total fraud,” the 13-term lawmaker told a Tea Party group Thursday.

Rohrabacher said global warming has its origins with liberals at the local-government level who want decision-making ceded to higher authorities.

“You’ve got liberals who get elected at the local level [that] want the state government to do the work and let them make the decisions. Then at the state level they want the federal government to do it. And at the federal government they want to create global government to control all of our lives,” he said.

“That’s what their game plan is. It’s step by step by step, more and bigger control over our lives by higher levels of government. And global warming is simply that strategy in spades,” adds Rohrabacher, a member of the House Science and the Foreign Affairs committees.

The Nation, a liberal magazine and website, posted video of the remarks and a story about them Saturday.

Rohrabacher, whose comments in California Thursday on climate began by disputing links between wildfires and global warming, is a longtime climate skeptic.

At the same appearance the lawmaker also imitated former GOP California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and noted he made a “big mistake” in endorsing him. He said he regretted the endorsement when Schwarzenegger “gave in to this global warming stuff.”

Rohrabacher also criticized federal funding for climate scientists and said it's aiding the agenda of the United Nations to restrict personal freedom.

“They have used it to intimidate people who disagree with their attempt to frighten all of us into changing our lives and giving up our freedom to make our choices on transportation, everything else,” Rohrabacher said. “No, that’s got to be done by a government official who, by the way, probably comes from Nigeria because he’s a U.N. government official, not a U.S. government official.”
