DNC video blasts Republicans as hostage-takers

The Democratic National Committee is out with a video parodying congressional Republicans as hostage-takers for their push to use government funding and the debt ceiling as leverage for their priorities.

"American people, this is the GOP. We have your economy," a malevolent, deep-voiced narrator says in the video.

"If you ever want your economy back, do exactly as we say. We have over 25 very specific demands and are adding more as we speak. To start, end ObamaCare. And while we're at it, let's gut Wall Street reform too.

"We demand you halt energy regulations, slash taxes for the rich while raising them on the middle class and start construction on the Keystone pipeline, like tomorrow. You know what? Why don't you just reverse the results of the 2012 presidential election?" the ad continues. "If your demands are not met, we'll simply stop paying our nation's bills, destroying our credibility and destabilizing the world's economy. Clock's ticking. We hope you don't make us do this."

The video is aimed at House Republicans, who in a Thursday morning meeting discussed a laundry list of priorities they might be able to force on Democrats as a condition for keeping the government funded and avoiding a default on governmental loans.
