Late-night smash: GOP to blame for government shutdown

The host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" scolded House GOP members for using the Constitution as a rhetorical talking point, while at the same time bashing President Obama's healthcare reform law.

Using an analogy of a losing football team, Stewart explained the "utter insanity" of the Republicans' argument, saying that if a team loses a game on Sunday they don't turn around and say, "If you don’t give us 25 points on Monday, we will shut down the NFL."

Stewart also touched on the GOP's complaint that Obama would rather negotiate with Iran than come to a deal on the budget.

"You’re not helping yourself if it turns out that President Barack Obama can make a deal with the most intransigent, hardline, unreasonable, totalitarian mullahs in the world, but not with Republicans," Stewart said. "Maybe he’s not the problem."
