Inhofe: Aid for Oklahoma tornado, Hurricane Sandy ‘totally different’
“Well, let’s look at that. That was totally different,” Inhofe said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Jansing & Co.”
“They were getting things — for instance, that was supposed to be in New Jersey, they had things in the Virgin Islands, they were fixing roads there. They were putting roofs on houses in Washington, D.C. Everyone was getting in and exporting the tragedy that took place. That won’t happen in Oklahoma.”
{mosads}Inhofe’s comments come a day after a massive tornado hit Moore, Okla., flattening homes and killing at least 24 people. Inhofe’s colleague, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) reportedly has said any relief aid for the tornado should be offset by spending cuts elsewhere.
Both Inhofe and Coburn previously sought to cut funding for Hurricane Sandy aid.
Late Monday night, Obama signed a major disaster declaration for Oklahoma in order to provide the state with federal aid. At a press conference on Tuesday the president said Oklahoma would have the full support of the federal government.
“As a nation, our full focus is on the urgent work of rescue and the hard work of recovery and rebuilding that lies ahead,” Obama said.
